Use Macfuse & MacFusion to connect to Apple TV

I like my Apple TV. I like it even more with Boxee installed on it. I like it even more than that with an external drive plugged into the back of my Apple TV. And lastly, I like being able to access said drive with ease.

Sharing my social bookmarklet goodness

I'm a sharing guy, lets face it. I'd leave it as that, but this opening paragraph always looks better with more content in it. So let me say, you're going to love my personal roundup of social bookmarklets, love them love them love them love them.

The most killer feed reader combination available to man

I'm a fan of RSS feeds. I don't subscribe to this notion that feeds are outdated and dying. Twitter and Facebook don't cut it for me, the information just flows too quickly. Having said that, I am using a couple programs to read feeds and you just have to know about it.

Good service at Vitamin World

Since starting my workout regimine I've been frequenting the Mid Rivers Mall Vitamin World store. I have received some really good service at the store and wanted to write a letter to their corporate office to make sure they knew about it.

To tumblr in a handbasket, and back

You may or may not have noticed, but recently I took my blog on a short trip to tumblrland. After 6 weeks on a different platform I'm back to my home brew CMS. I thought I'd share my thoughts on the whole trip.

How to make the perfect cup of iced green tea

My addiction to tea didn't start until the winter months. That means I'm just now learning how to make the perfect cup of iced tea. I'd like to share my formula; let's enjoy iced tea together. Mmkay?

How to update iPhone from 2.2.1 to 3.0 beta 3

Not sure if I'm just a total doofus or if my googling skills were just off but I had a heck of a time figuring out how to get the new iPhone 3.0 beta 3 installed on my iPhone today. Here's how I did it.

iPhone Wallpaper - Enjoy!

I was sitting here at my desk working (on the Mac) when the Helios screensaver on my Ubuntu box went off. I thought, huh, that'd make a cool wallpaper for my iPhone.

Jack almost 1 year old!

Jack is about to turn 1, man the time has just cruised by. We encouraged him to make his own party invitations. Here's a video of the whole process.

Give Whrrl a whrrl

If you haven't heard yet, Whrrl is a storytelling application for the web and mobile phone. It lets users share their events as they unfold. Think of BrightKite only way better.

Jack the walker

Jack has been taking steps here and there lately. Now I think it's pretty safe to say he's fully walking. Check out this video from today!

My New Love for Tea

I've got it bad, like bad bad. Having completely kicked coffee during my juice fast I began drinking tea. I went from knowing nothing about tea to measuring loose leaf tea, getting the right temperature water and keeping track of steeping times for that perfect cup of tea. I'm searching for tea podcasts, reading tea blogs and, yeah.

10 day juice fast (done)

It's that time of year again, juice fast. I like to do a good juice fast at least once a year to get a nice base, clean out the ole system. (although I don't recall doing one last year). It's a great way to rid your body of all of the extra toxins, it's sort of like clearing out old cookies from your browser.

Project: Youtube thumbnail getter thingy

Ok I'm past due for one of my silly projects, so here it is. A youtube thumbnail getter. I was working on a job recently where getting different thumbnails was necessary to accompany each posted video.

Use xmodmap to remap keys on Apple Aluminum Keyboard

Ok, another problem I've been having, and this has been fairly consistent through any Linux distro. I'm an Apple user, therefore I'm used to the Apple keyboard layout. I use Command, not Control. Here's a fix on how to remap your keys so you can still have the luxury of not breaking your fingers to hit the control key.

Transferring a .vdi VirtualBox machine on Linux

I'm far from a Linux pro, let's get that out in the open. I'm quite the opposite actually. But I found a solution to a problem that was bugging me today and I thought someone else may stumble on this and find help. All GUI baby!

Quest marketing commercials in St. Louis

My wife and I are always on the look out for these late night Quest commercials. It's not that uncommon for us to rewind and laugh as we watch them over and over, lame I know. I had to bust out the video camera on this latest commercial so I could share w/ my St. Louis peeps. Lets all laugh together.

A Letter from the King of Winghaven

A pretty hilarious thing happened last week in Winghaven and I almost missed it. A letter was sent from the City of Winghaven telling all residents that they are not to have political signs in their yards. Apparently someone on my street, hereto known as "The King of Winghaven" wrote up a reply and stuck it in everyone's mail box. And now I share it with you.

Project: Rick Roll URL Checker

Well it seems that Rick Rolling has reared it's ugly head again, at least in IRC. So I thought I'd take a few minutes (10 to be exact) and write up a little "Rick Roll Checker".

Enable Line Numbers in CFEclipse

I've been terribly annoyed with an issue with Eclipse / CFEclipse lately where line numbers are not showing up by default. Oh, and the option to enable them in the preferences is not there either. This becomes a problem when, you know, you're trying to work. ;-) I found a quick and dirty solution to enable line numbers.

Make your product photos pop with a white background using photoshop

It's the goal of every photographer to do as much "in camera" as possible such as cropping, exposure, lighting etc. The more you do in camera the less time you spend in photoshop which means the faster you can produce your image. However many times, even after the extra in-camera-effort, the photo still needs a little love in photoshop to make it just right.

How to disable disqus comment voting / clout control

There's been some back and forth on the comment rating and clout surrounding the disqus commenting system, which I use and happen to like. I found a quick and dirty solution to hiding the voting arrows on your site using jQuery.

Reuse - Drawer organizers from a pizza box

Our junk drawers were outta control. Since we moved in to our new house the 4 drawers on the island in the kitchen were a mess. Sarah and I went drawer organizer shopping only to find them to be a little overpriced.

Firefox Download Day

I just had to post this real quick. It's my Firefox download day certificate. Doesn't really do that much for my geek status but still. I downloaded it on 3 machines.

1st bike ride with new mountain bike

Let's get this out in the open: I'm out of shape. I want to get back into shape so for father's day Sarah bought me a brand new mountain bike. Just owning the bike isn't enough so I went for a bike ride this morning. I learned a few things...

Got my Sprint Samsung Instinct Phone!

I spent two hours at the Sprint store yesterday waiting in line for the new Samsung Instinct. I was one of the lucky recipients of the pre-screening email which meant I could get the phone a day early.

Post to ping.fm from your widget dashboard

I discovered something sort of a cool today after Sean at Ping.fm added a new feature. Ping.fm now allows you to "pop-out" the posting window sort of like when you're in gmail and you want to chat in a new window. Anyway you can also add this pop-out to your dashboard, here's how.

Our impatience and the real people behind social web services

Tonight, not even thinking it through, I made a comment on Twitter about how I was starting to like disqus (link) less. I said it not really even thinking about it and a few minutes later @danielha one of the founders of disqus asked why. It hit me, whoa... behind all of these free web services are real people. What?

Live Coverage of the Phoenix Lander

The University of Arizona is the first public university to lead a mission to Mars. The Phoenix Mars Mission, scheduled to land May 25, 2008, is the first in NASA's "Scout Program." Scouts are designed to be highly innovative and relatively low-cost complements to major missions being planned as part of the agency's Mars Exploration Program.

Trying out Dipity

Here's a cool service: "Dipity is the easiest way to make and share interactive timelines about the people and things you care about." Check out my timeline below.

Project: List Manager - Create a list for anything (todo, grocery, to call, etc)

So I was out and about the other day and I called Sarah to see if she wanted me to pick up anything. Of course with a new child we sort of have to plan a trip to the store. Right at that moment I knew it would be cool if she could hop online, make up a quick list for me and I could access it with my phone. Here we go!

Chemicals in products: Shaving Cream

I've been hammering on this pretty hard lately in my personal life and blog. I'm on a quest to live as naturally and organic and chemical free as possible. So I decided to do some very light research this morning and here is what I found.

Project: Baby Action Tracker (poop, pee, eat, etc)

Before we left the hospital the nurse gave us a chart so we can track our baby's feeding and pooping. I guess that's kinda common? Anyway the geek in me wanted to make a little mini-app so I did. And here it is!

Reuse - Make old shopping bags into a wallet

On my quest to go green, I'm making a quick stop to pat myself on the back for mastering one of the R's, Recycle. Now I'm starting to focus on another R, Reuse. Today I mentioned something on twitter and @tony sent me a cool link on how to reuse old shopping bags.

Boycotting Starbucks - Supporting local coffee shops

That's the final straw. Starbucks is officially dead to me. Although this isn't the best reason to quit (I'm sure there are better reasons, like supporting local coffee shops now and then) but it'll due. Every-single-time I get a drink from Starbucks, it is not delivered as ordered. It's a common theme out here in the suburbs. I'm done.

Mobile Photo Blog - Post from your Sprint phone to your blog using Coldfusion

I've had my Treo 650 for quite some time now. I've only recently started using the camera portion of my phone. I'd really like to get the photos on the web but the burden of transferring the images from my phone to my computer / from my computer to my blog kept me from doing so. I was able to put together a solution for this, read on.
