Mobile Photo Blog - Post from your Sprint phone to your blog using Coldfusion

I've had my Treo 650 for quite some time now. I've only recently started using the camera portion of my phone. I'd really like to get the photos on the web but the burden of transferring the images from my phone to my computer / from my computer to my blog kept me from doing so. I was able to put together a solution for this, read on.

Home Office: Getting greener by the day

As you may or may not know, I work from home. I've made some efforts to make my workplace more "green-friendly" so I thought I'd list a few here to note my progress. If you have any other ideas I'd definitely be up for 'em.

Palm Treo IBM JVM download and other tasty abbreviations

I'm posting my Palm Treo 650 woes with Opera Mini, the need for the IBM WebSphere JVM that Palm no longer offers because Palm is (in my opinion) going down the tubes. It took some digging, I got it working finally and here is how I did it.

Must Read Book: Green Greener Greenest

I picked up an excellent book a few days ago. It's titled "Green, Greener, Greenest" by Lori Bongiorno. It's a practical guide to making eco-smart choices a part of your life. Lori worked for BusinessWeek and has written for The Green Guide (among other magazines) so her writing style is spot-on.

Bisphenol A in baby bottles?

Imagine my surprise when after only 5 minutes of browsing the net I found the baby bottles we bought contained Bisphenol A (BPA). There are two schools of thought when it comes to BPA, 1) It's totally safe 2) It's totally toxic.

Going Green: Just getting started

That's it. I'm "going green". Frankly, I'm a bit mad / pissed / fed up (call it what you want) with the amount of crap we unknowingly ingest and inhale through our food, household cleaners and other materials on a day-to-day basis. I've been doing some reading, a lot of reading and my findings have been quite sobering.

Fake Image Preloader for Photoblogs

Why not spice up your blog or photoblog by displaying a preloading image while your main photo is loading? This is by no means a new technique, I've been doing it for quite a few years and you see it all over the web now. A few years back I had a short DIY on how to do this but it got moved somewhere. So, here it is again!

Just installed Firefox Beta - First Impressions

I just now finally installed Firefox beta which I believe was released in mid February. So I'm a late bloomer but I thought I'd make a quick post (from my new FF3 beta, mind you) and give you my impressions.

DIY Ring Light Tutorial Revised (New & Improved!)

Back in 2006 I shared how I made my own ring light with supplies from the local hardware store. I made a new ring light recently and wanted to share how I did it. This new version uses less power and looks good enough to take in front of a client/model (the old one was ugly).

Hello? Eclipse? Anybody there? Hello?

beachball Eclipse has been mean to me today. I'm working on a .cfm template that's around 1300 lines. Doing simple search/replace brings beach ball madness.

jQuery saves the day, again

I'm a huge fan of jQuery. Call me a fanboi I don't care, I just love it. It's actually one of the main reasons why I wanted to redevelop my site, to convert everything over to jQuery.

Thank You Fishalicious

A few months back I tried to install Coldfusion locally together with MAMP and it was a horrible disaster because I was on a newly released version of Leopard. A few months later I decided to give it a try and found this great tutorial.

Relaunched Fresh Blend Media

I really hate bragging and/or boasting but I have to mention the fact that Sarah and I just got done relaunching our business website. It's been hard working until 3am every morning but I'm glad we finally got it done.

IT'S A BOY! Ultrasound Scans!

Ok I'm clearly late on posting these ultrasound scans. Look closely and you'll see the date is from the 20th of November. Better late than never!

Wii Bowling High Score Part Deux

Some crazy commenter called me a nerd (it's almost like they KNOW me, hmmm) on my last post so I thought I'd build my street cred with a new high score. View it and weep.

Thank you, Ubuntu

Just wanted to send a quick shout out to Ubuntu for saving the day once again. Getting a leg up on storage has been a real challenge for Fresh Blend Media and I needed a solution quick. Ubuntu to the rescue...

The Mac and PC? In One?

I've been so much in awe with my new iMac(s) that I haven't had time to write about it. I'm now running Windows XP on my Mac (yes, I still have a few PC apps that I can't develop without).

White and Nerdy

It occurred to me the other day that over the years I have gotten nerdier and nerdier. Here is a cool little video that I wanted to share as a tribute to my nerdiness. Be proud.

Guess who is having a baby?

It's a dream come true for me. Pretty soon there will be another little Holst running around! We're both very excited! I don't even know what to say!

Random Photo

Just got a 10-22mm Canon f3.5 Wide angle and I thought I'd post a random shot. Just for kicks.

Local Comic Book, Cosmic Cherry

Cosmic Cherry is the name and so far that's all the info I have. These local artists are not just any local artists, they're my brother in law James and his girlfriend Diana aka lildira.

Quick Must Have Firefox Add-Ons

I've talked about Add-ons before but found a new one today so I'd like to revisit the subject of Firefoxy goodness. Love me some Firefox!

Don't Click It!

I found this site ages ago and could not remember where it was for the life of me! I finally found it and am posting it here. Give it a shot!

SASUKE - Ninja Warrior

Ninja warrior is a Japanese sports entertainment television special that airs on the Tokyo Broadcasting System and is now available on G4 TechTV. It's been 10 years since the first episode. Why I only discovered it last week is a mystery to me. I love it I love it.

Pour me some Corkd, I mean wine

Sarah bought a wicked good bottle of wine the other day from Schnucks. I hate when I get a good bottle of wine and forget what it was or where I bought it. Cork'd to the rescue!

Removing dotted line from active links

I was working on a project that relied on an opacity state when a link (or in this case, a thumbnail link) is either :active or :focus. I got everything working but noticed the dreaded dots in FF & IE6.

Dreamweaver CS3

Dreamweaver CS3 is the bomb. Photoshop CS3 is even more wicked than before, if that's possible. But I wanted to quickly post this dialog box for my buddy Dave.

Mary Brandel takes a cfdump

I haven't had the chance to write about my relationship with ColdFusion yet, and I don't have the time right now. Since ColdFusion is currently paying my bills, I have to put this story out there real quick and expose it for what it is, poop.

New (More) Gear!

More gear! I'm trying to build up a nice studio. In order to do that I had to snag some lighting and a few other goodies. I'm way over budget so now it's time to make some funds.

Anonymous Love Letter, For Me?

A very kind soul wrote me a love letter the other day. It was written on beautiful stationary paper and tucked nicely under my windshield wiper.

999 Joost Invites

Who needs a Joost invite? Connie just emailed me and said she had 998 and I just got a message from Kyle saying he heard the news.

Rebuilding a machine, major pain.

Rebuilding a machine or reloading the operating system is a major pain. I thought I'd detail a few things I did in my latest rebuild. There's a few helpful tips along with a few helpful programs. Check it out.

No Joost Invites Yet

Since my first Joost post I've had a few asking about invites. So I wanted to post this image to prove that I don't have any at the moment. :-)
