She made this with a technique she called sfumato, which is sort of like cross stitching I think. Maybe she'll see this post and enlighten us with a comment but I think this is a really awesome piece of art. I told her my eyeballs spin at the thought of doing something so detailed. My attention span would be working against me the entire time!
Here is the photo that served as the example for her stitching. It's crazy how she got all of the shading and everything, really neat.
Great job Kim, now everyone go check out her site - http://kimcstl.blogspot.com/

To explain a bit: no, it's not cross stitch embroidery. The Sfumato embroidery software creates tiny little meandering stitches that are close together or far apart depending on the shading needed based on what it sees in the photograph. It doesn't do this automatically. I spend hours on each photo instructing the software to interpret the image into patterns of color, light, and shade. Sometimes it all comes together and works very well. Other times it can be a horrible mess. ha!
I'm glad you like it. Now, I just need to get it to you somehow. I'll check your FreshMedia site to see if it has a mailing address.
