Supporting the Tower Grove Farmers' Market is the smart thing to do. Why? Cause it's the right thing to do, AND you get a t-shirt. Beat that! It starts up again this season: Every Saturday from May 10 through October 25, 8:30am until 12:30pm.
Although it's been going for a few years now, I only found out about it recently at ProBlogSTL.
Here is a snippet from their mission statement: [read the whole thing here]
- To give growers and producers of Missouri and Illinois agricultural commodities and other farm-related products alternative marketing opportunities.
- To promote the sale of Missouri and Illinois-grown farm products.
- To improve the variety, freshness, taste and nutritional value of produce available in the St. Louis area.
- To make healthy, regionally produced foods accessible to lower-income residents.
- To provide an educational forum for consumers to learn the uses and benefits of quality, locally grown or prepared food products.
- To enhance the quality of life in the St. Louis area by providing a community activity which fosters social gathering and interaction.
You can support the farmers market a few different ways. You can make a donation and get a Tower Grove Farmers' Market t-shirt, a Tower Grove Farmers' Market recycled plastic travel coffee mug, 2 reusable organic cotton produce bags or a Tower Grove Farmers' Market organic cotton totebag. (I opted for the shirt, I'm a sucker for t-shirts.) You can also support them by shopping there.
The location is at, well, Tower Grove Park but more specifically west of the pool pavillion.
